Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a time limit on this partnership?

Your partnership with Sungevity is valid for a full year, and you can renew your contract when the year is up.

When does our organization get our funds?

If someone through your organization goes solar using your organization's referral code, Sungevity will send a check to your organization for a minimum of $750 within 90 days after their system is installed and connected to the grid.

Are there any strings attached to this money?

Nope, the referral payment is considered unrestricted funds.

Can we take advantage of this promotion more than once?

Yes. Our partners have found that repetition is retention. We will work with you to create a calendar of outreach that will maximize your fundraising results through dynamic messaging and innovative approaches.

How much money can we expect to raise?

That depends mainly on the size of your organization, how engaged your members and supporters are and how actively you promote the program. We will discuss this with you in great detail based on the outreach commitment you've agreed to and the size of your supporter base.

How will Sungevity know when someone comes in through our organization?

Anyone who links to Sungevity's iQuote page from your website or e-mail will be automatically "tagged" as affiliated with your organization. Otherwise, if they visit independently, they'll be prompted to enter a referral code and, at that point, can enter the unique referral code assigned to your group.

I'm overworked. Is this a big time investment?

This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to raise money and, best of all, you don’t owe us any grant reports down the road! Basically, you’ll just spend a few minutes tweaking the outreach materials we provide you and then blasting it out to your list.

What geographic regions does Sungevity serve?

We install in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District ofColumbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, NorthCarolina, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Publicize the program to your members in these states only.

Can we get other people who aren’t members of our group to sign up?

Yes. As long as they plug in your group's referral code, you’ll get the referral fee. But please be careful not to send out any mass unsolicited e-mails to non-members (which could be perceived as spam and will make us all very unpopular).

How do I know if Sungevity is a reputable company?

We are certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners and have a perfect record with the Better Business Bureau. To learn more about Sungevity's awards and accreditations, visit our website.

How do I get started?

Step one is to register your organization. After you do that, we'll send you a welcome email with all of the information you'll need to get started on our fundraising partnership.

Will Sungevity provide us with outreach materials?

Yes. Once you join the program, you'll be able to download sample emails, social media posts, graphics and flyer templates you can use to publicize this promotion to your supporters.

Will the privacy of our supporters be compromised?

No. You won't be providing any information about your supporters to Sungevity because you'll be the ones publicizing this promotion, not us. Once someone requests an iQuote from us, that person voluntarily provides Sungevity with the information we need to create an iQuote for their home. Sungevity protects this information pursuant to its Privacy Policy:

What is the Sungevity Solar Lease?

The Sungevity Solar Lease makes solar affordable. Many homeowners who want the benefits of solar energy can't afford the upfront cost associated with a cash system, so with a Sungevity solar lease, we make the upfront investment and absorb all the burdens and risks. We pay for the design and installation and are responsible for the system's operation, maintenance, repair and monitoring. Customers get solar electricity with locked in price-stability. You can go solar with no down payment and most save money from Day 1. With the Sungevity Solar Lease, the reduction in your monthly energy bill will usually be greater than your Solar Lease payment and on top of the financial benefits, we guarantee the performance of the system, provide proactive monitoring and maintenance, and insure your system against accidental damage.

How long is the Sungevity Solar Lease commitment?

The Sungevity Solar Lease is a 20 year commitment to solar-powered living and financial savings. After 20 years, you may choose to renew for additional 5 year periods (up to 25 years).

What happens if I need to move?

You may end up selling your home so we make it easy to transfer your Lease to a new homeowner. You have several options which are explained in your Lease, including: 1. Assigning your Lease to the new homeowner subject to credit check. 2. Prepaying the remaining Lease payments and assigning the benefits and non-financial obligations (e.g., roof access) to the new homeowner. 3. Purchasing the Sungevity solar home system at fair market value. 4. Terminating the lease and asking us to remove the system. All of these details are set forth in your Lease and Performance Guarantee, including applicable renewable energy incentive holding periods and recapture payments.

Why do you need to know my energy consumption over each of the last 12 months?

Your historical energy consumption is necessary to customize a solar solution that matches your lifestyle, current and future. Having it makes our solar iQuote accurate and best predicts the money we can save you by going solar. We also need 12 months' historical energy consumption for completion of solar rebates and incentive paperwork.

What happens at the end of the lease term?

Your Sungevity solar lease lasts 20 years. At the end of the agreement, we make it easy for you to continue with solar, or to have us remove the system.

What locations does Sungevity serve?

Sungevity's service area is growing fast. We currently serve most parts of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Maryland, and Vermont.

What happens after I sign up to go solar with Sungevity?

After you sign up, we'll start working on getting your solar system up and running by scheduling a Home Visit with one of our excellent local installers. Then we'll design the system and our local installers will install it at a convenient time. We'll also handle the permits and other paperwork for you. After installation, we'll proactively monitor your system so it will always be optimized for maximum performance.

What if my system generates more electricity than I use?

It's yours! Your excess production belongs to you, and depending on your utility, you may get a credit for this excess production. During a sunny day, your system produces a lot of electricity. The additional electricity your system produces flows back into the grid and runs your meter backwards, earning you credits. Then, when it's dark, you draw electricity back from the grid.

What's an iQuote?

An iQuote gives the homeowner a firm price on an appropriately-sized solar system for their home. The iQuote shows them the cost of buying vs. leasing a system and shows how much they'll save on electricity over a 20 year period.
